Mangal Singh, assistant sub-inspector of police at Kamalke, confirmed the registration of a case against Gurjant Singh, who is a computer mechanic at Makhu town in Ferozepur district.

The victim's parents told the police the suspect had told their daughter that he had decided to marry another woman, and even village elders had failed to make him see reason. After the victim took the matter to the senior superintendent of police, he issued an order for her medical examination in Moga.
