A mother of twin girls, who are about two months old, abandoned her infants at the Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital here on Monday.
College principal Dr KD Singh said the infants were under observation at the paediatric department.
"We have done all clinical tests on the girls and their condition is normal," said Dr Singh.According to hospital authorities, the twins' mother visited the hospital emergency's ward on Sunday on the pretext of consulting doctors about their health.
However, when doctor asked her for the babies' medical history, the unidentified woman said she did not have them with her. The doctor then asked her to compile the information before starting the treatment. But, she did not return.

After waiting for several hours, the doctor informed the police.
Meanwhile, Dr Singh said they had informed the health department which will rummage records of all twins born in the state over the past three months to identify the mother.
"It is a sorry state of affairs that despite creating awareness, people are not changing their mindsets towards the girl child," said Dr Singh.
Model Town station house officer Narinderpal Singh said the police were yet to register a case as they were in the process of recording doctors' statements and preparing a sketch of the woman to identify her.
