The family of Varinder Singh, who was dragged to death in a Swift car on March 13, and residents of Saketri on Friday took out a candle march demanding capital punishment for his killers.
As many as eight accused have been arrested in the case. The candle march was carried out from Shakti Bhavan Chowk to the cut between Sector 7 and 8, and back to the Chowk.
There was an old enmity between Varinder’s cousin Avtaar Singh and Waraich. But on the night of March 13, they killed Varinder when they had come to kill Avtaar. Varinder’s mother Dalvinder Kaur also participated. They demanded capital punishment for the killers.
Police have produced Vishal Saini, Talwinder Singh, Manjot Singh Waraich, Jashanpreet Singh and Barminder Singh in the court on completion of their custody on Friday. Police did not press for further police custody, so all the accused were sent to judicial custody.
According to police, Manmeet Singh Waraich, son of ward no 8 councillor Kuljeet Waraich, is the prime accused. He was arrested on March 14, along with Harmanpreet Singh of Sante Majra of Kharar. Then on March 15, Trilok Singh Bhainsa Tibba was also nabbed.
On March 18, Talwinder Singh Manakmajra in SAS Nagar was arrested from Landra Chowk. Accused Vishal Saini of Sector 22, Chandigarh was arrested from Dehradun. Sources said it was Wariach, who was driving the car that dragged Varinder to death. All the arrested accused are either friends or relatives of Waraich.
On March 20, Manjot Singh, Jashanpreet Singh and Barminder Singh were arrested. One more accused, Para of Landran is yet to be arrested.
