Nachhatar Gill fails to get bail in rape case
The court of additional session judge Surinderpal Kaur on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of singer Nachhatar Singh Gill, an accused in a rape case.
Counsel for the accused argued before the court that his client was not guilty of rape. He added that there was a consensual relationship between the complainant and his client. He also contended that the girl was a major at the time of the alleged rape and that there was no proper time and date mentioned regarding the alleged crime in the statement of the complainant and thus his client should be granted bail in this case.
The counsel for the prosecution, advocate KL Kochar pointed out that Raja, one of the four accused in this case, is yet to be arrested. He further argued that another accused Jagdeep Singh Sohi had also applied for bail but his bail was rejected by the court. After listening to the arguments of both sides the court rejected the bail plea of the singer.
Accused Gill, along with three other accused Charndeep Singh Channi, Jagdeep Singh Sohi and Raja, were booked for rape on December 6, 2013.
