Independent MLAs - Simarjeet Singh Bains, Balwinder Singh Bains and 28 supporters were booked under various sections, including attempt to murder, illegal sand mining, theft, 341, 353, 186, 379, 427, 109, 120-B, 114, 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Bains brothers had started a satyagraha against the sand mafia on April 17 from the bank of Sutlej River at Chuharwal village from where they were arrested.

Advocate Jagmohan Singh Warraich, “We filed bail application in sessions court on Monday. The court of additional sessions judge Gurnam Singh fixed the next hearing on April 24.”

Earlier, the district and sessions judge marked the case to additional sessions judge who serves notice to state.
