The station house officer (SHO) of Phul police station in Bathinda was suspended on Wednesday after it was found that a Congress worker’s nude video, which has gone viral online since Sunday, was made in his office in November 2015. Meanwhile, even as the two head constables suspended for allegedly making the video remained absent from duty, the police are now probing as to who uploaded the video on the internet.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Bathinda, Swapan Sharma said, “Phul SHO Jai Singh has been put under suspension as he was responsible for what happened in his office, though he was not present when the video was shot.” Jai Singh was served at other station in between, but is now again the SHO at Phul.

The video was reportedly shot after Dharam Singh and three others from Bhai Rupa village, 40km from here, were detained before they were to hold a protest against rural development minister Sikander Singh Maluka. The villagers were protesting sacrilege incidents and taking over of a disputed land by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).

The victim has alleged that the video was uploaded on Facebook by a grandson of a senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader of his village, Bhai Rupa, 40 km from here.

An inquiry pinpointed that the video was shot inside the office of the station house officer (SHO), and that the voice in the background is of the two cops, said deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Phul, Karanvir Singh. The probe was held after residents of Bhai Rupa staged a protest on Tuesday demanding action also against some leaders of the SAD whom they alleged were behind the video and its going viral via Facebook.

A case under section 166 (public servant disobeying law, with intent to cause injury to any person), 342 (wrongful confinement), 355 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour person), 499 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the two head constables, Ram Singh and Harinder Singh.
