Dhankar said in his Republic Day address here on Monday that the villages showing improved girl child population would receive extra money for development. “If a village registers 1,015 girls for every 1,000 boys, it will get `15 lakh extra fund,” he said.

The minister said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state was committed to protecting the right of the girl child from her birth to her marriage. Remembering freedom fighters, he said that the state government would install honours boards at villages to mark their contributions so that they didn’t remain unsung.

He counted infrastructure development and profitable agriculture as priorities.
