Pakistani Salim Iqbal who strayed into India sent home

A Pakistani national who strayed into India in Punjab’s Amritsar sector has been sent back home, the Border Security Force (BSF) said on Sunday.

Salim Iqbal, aged around 40 years and resident of a village in Pakistan’s Sheikhpura district, inadvertently crossed into India on the night of November 12-13, said BSF deputy inspector general RS Kataria.

He entered Indian territory and reached near a border security fence.

“During questioning, he said he was not aware of the alignment of international boundary and had inadvertently came into India. Nothing objectionable was recovered from his possession,” Kataria said.

BSF officials contacted the Pakistan Rangers on Saturday and Iqbal was handed over to them on humanitarian grounds.

In 2015, 12 Pakistanis who by mistake crossed the border were handed over to the Pakistan Rangers, Kataria said.
