Patiala jail unauthorised entry case: HC grants anticipatory bail to Pinky

The Punjab and Haryana high court on Wednesday gave anticipatory bail to dismissed cop Gurmeet Singh Pinky in the December 2015 Patiala jail incident in which militant Balwant Singh Rajoana had allegedly attacked Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former journalist Kanwar Sandhu, during an ‘unauthorised’ interview.

The high court bench of justice MMS Bedi said in its order on Wednesday that since Pinky was not required for the further investigation and in the past he had joined the same, he be released on bail as and when arrested by the police.
The order will remain operational till the time of filing of the challan. Sandhu has already got interim bail in this case. He had moved court in May and Pinky on July 23.
Sandhu was accused of ‘unauthorised’ entry to the Patiala Central Jail on December 19, 2015, to meet Rajoana. Sandhu had gone to the the high-security prison with Pinky.
On December 24, 2015, police registered the FIR against Sandhu, Pinky, and some jail officials. Pinky is charged with making fake entries later to authenticate the meeting.
