President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Union finance minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday called Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to condole the death of the latter’s mother Rajmata Mohinder Kaur.

The President expressed his heartfelt sympathies with Captain Amarinder, saying his thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family in their hour of grief.
Kovind recalled his stay with the family in Moti Bagh Palace during his visit to Patiala along with Morarji Desai in 1977 and remembered the Rajmata’s pleasant hospitality.
Amarinder thanked Kovind and congratulated him on being elected to the high office of the President. The CM also regretted that he could not attend the President’s swearing-in at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Jaitley expressed his deepest sympathies to the Captain and other members of the family at the tragic loss. He added that he had prayed to the Almighty to give the family the courage to bear the grief.
