
Prez, PM visit: City police seek extra forces for security
Keeping security in mind, the Ludhiana police commissionerate has sought extra manpower to man Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) before the visit of President Pranab Mukherji and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The President is expected to be in city on November 27 while the PM is supposed to visit the city on December 8.
The dignitaries are visiting Ludhiana on the occasion of golden jubilee celebrations of the PAU.
The police officials also visited the PAU campus for preparations.
Meanwhile, police commissioner Ishwar Singh has banned carrying weapons at public places using special magisterial powers under section 144 of the CrPC. The orders will be remain in effect till December 31.
The police commissioner said keeping the security of VVIPs in mind who would be visiting the city, he released the orders. No one would be allowed to carry arms and sharp-edged weapons in public places.
The police commissioner said they needed extra force for security arrangements and had requested the state and department for it. Sanction of extra security forces was awaited.
