After the body of school principal Ranjit Singh was fished on Monday from a canal near Kanganwal village in this district, the people blamed in his suicide note are caught in more trouble.
Ranjit, cremated after autopsy, had died of drowning, failing the police theory that he planted the note and disappeared to frame some people. Only school clerk Parminder Kaur, who had accused the principal of trying to buy her affection; her husband, Happy Sattu; and the principal of the government school at Kalakh village, Gurmail Singh, are yet named as accused.
Khanna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Harcharan Singh Bhullar said the case of abetting suicide was based on the statement of the victim's son. The principal's family said the note also mentioned Dakha legislator and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Lok Sabha candidate Manpreet Singh Ayali but there's no word from the police on him.
Sub-inspector Jaswant Singh, investigating officer from Malaud in Khanna police district, confirmed that the body had been recovered around 2pm, which means the police will now have to examine more people.
Ranjit Singh, principal of the government school at Latala village in Ludhiana district, is believed to have blamed three more people (Pawan Kumar, Gurmukh, and Harjinder Singh), besides the three absconders and the SAD Lok Sabha candidate, for his taking the extreme step.
Meanwhile, district education officer Paramjit Kaur Chahal confirmed that the woman clerk accused in the suicide case had complained to her against Ranjit Singh over telephone. "I asked for a written complaint but she did not file it," said the DEO.
