Scooter-borne snatchers in Chandigarh target four people in three days

Sources in the Chandigarh police said they had rounded up a suspect, and were verifying his involvement in these cases.

Snatchers riding Honda Activas struck four times in the past three days in Chandigarh, targeting three women and a man.

On Saturday, two cases of snatching were reported, wherein in the first case, a man riding a Honda Activa snatched the purse of a woman near the Hotel Management Institute in Sector 42.

The victim, Onnee, claimed her purse contained Rs 5,000 and two mobile phones.

Similarly, Monica Singh of Sector 41, reported that a man, also riding an Activa, snatched her purse containing Rs 10,000 in cash, a mobile phone and a pair of car keys outside Vivek High School in Sector 38.

Cops said the victim was visiting the school for a parent-teacher meeting. The Sector 36 and Sector 39 police officials have registered separate cases under Sections 379 (theft) and 356 (using criminal force to commit a crime) of the Indian Penal Code against the unidentified accused.

On Friday, two similar cases of snatching were reported.

The first snatching took place in Sector 22 outside Shishu Niketan Model Senior Secondary School. The victim, Hamida Rehman, a resident of Sector 68, Mohali, complained that a man on an Activa snatched her purse containing Rs 6,000. Rehman had come to the school to drop her children.

Another snatching was reported in Sector 16 on Friday night where an Activa-borne man snatched the mobile phone of a man.

Sources in the Chandigarh police said they had rounded up a suspect, and were verifying his involvement in these cases.
