Senior US official meets Dalai Lama

Under secretary Sarah Sewall, US special coordinator for the Tibetan issues, arrived here on Saturday morning. Sewall will visit the Tibetan settlements in the town and will discuss the issue of refugees with officials.

Sewall will visit the Tibetan settlements in the town and will discuss the issue of refugees with officials.

She met spiritual leader the Dalai Lama. She will announce a new award of $3.2 million for the Tibetan Health System Strengthening Project to universalise access to quality health services, including preventable child and maternal deaths.

Earlier, Sewall had visited the Tibetan settlements in Kathmandu and Pokhara in Nepal. While in Nepal, she also met prime minister Sushil Koirala and foreign minister Mahendra Bahadur Pandey and discussed bilateral coordination on key issues, including Nepal's progress towards adopting a constitution.
