Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Avtar Singh Makkar has received a threat, purportedly from the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), a banned Sikh militant group.

The threat letter was sent to a Jalandhar-based Hindi daily. This was confirmed by Makkar while talking to the media during a book release ceremony here on Tuesday.

Asked about the content of the letter, he said it simply warned him to desist from indulging in ‘anti-Sikh activities’.

“Such threats are quite common. I have handed over the letter to the state police,” he added.

He evaded a reply on whether his security cover had been enhanced.

The authenticity of the letter was yet to be confirmed.
