Six suffer burns after explosion in oil tank

Six migrant labourers suffered burns on Friday evening following a sudden explosion in an oil tank at a pipe-fitting factory at the industrial estate here.

However, the police have not registered a case even after the cops reached the hospital and the duty magistrate recorded the statements of the injured.

The injured have been identified as Saajan, Vipan, Chandan, Vinod, Sheshnag and Pandit, who were admitted to a charitable hospital here.

Chandan, who suffered injuries on the arms and neck, said they were working in the factory when around 6pm, there was a sudden blast in an underground oil tanker. A spark reportedly entered the tanker when they were carrying the hot iron. He said the factory management took them to hospital.

Saajan, who suffered injuries on both legs and an arm, said that as a result of the blast he fell unconscious.

On Friday night, the duty magistrate also recorded the statements of the injured in the hospital.

Deputy commissioner of police Rahul S said the police had registered a daily diary report; he would visit the site to find out the cause of the blast. He said in case of negligence, an FIR would be registered.
