Maluka was allegedly involved in bypassing rules in buying books for libraries in primary schools.

PSU state president Gurmukh Mann said, "Besides resignation, a case of cheating should be registered against the education minister and he should be quizzed on the use of funds sent by the Centre from time to time."

The student union hailed the decision of the state government to order an inquiry into the matter by retired high court judge Justice AN Jindal.

The union also demanded the immediate removal of Maluka's daughter-in-law from the post of additional state director of the Sarv Sikhya Abhiyan, who was brought on deputation from the rural development department.
