The immigration authorities at Sree Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport here detained him when he arrived from Dubai aboard an Air India flight and handed him over to the Faridkot police. Airport station house officer (SHO) inspector Mohan Singh confirmed the arrest.
On January 21, a police party was taking Sukha Kahlwan back to the Nabha jail after a court hearing in Jalandhar when nearly 15 armed men intercepted the vehicle and gunned down the gangster. The police are since raiding various places to catch all the accused; and Deol’s arrest is a latest breakthrough in the case.
“Deol, who had arrived from Dubai to murder Sukha Kahlwan, had gone back after the job was done,” Faridkot senior superintendent of police Charanjeet Singh Sharma said in a media briefing.
The accused belongs to a well-to-do family and his father is a veterinary officer. “He runs transport business in Dubai, and in the preliminary interrogation, has accepted that he killed Sukha Kahlwan. He faces six cases of kidnapping, snatching, and other crimes in other districts,” said the SSP.
The Faridkot police had arrested main accused Gurpreet Sekhon on March 3.
