Sensing that opposition against SAD Ferozepur nominee Sher Singh Ghubaya within the ruling alliance is apparently increasing, party president and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal “pulled up” all sitting and former MLAs, besides halqa in-charges and senior BJP leaders on Monday.
After a brief meeting with BJP leader from Abohar, Vijay Laxmi Badhu at the office of Akali MLA from Ferozepur (rural) Joginder Singh Jindu, Sukhbir sent her out and later reportedly “pulled up” party leaders belonging to nine assembly segments under Ferozepur parliamentary constituency.
“If Ghubaya trailed from any assembly segment, the MLA/halqa in-charge concerned would be held responsible for it,” an insider pleading anonymity quoted Sukhbir as saying.
Earlier, halqa in-charges of nine assembly segments under Ferozepur Lok Sabha constituency besides state BJP chief Kamal Sharma accompanied Ghubaya while filing his nomination at the DC’s office.
BJP leader’s verbal assault
On Sunday evening, former chief parliamentary secretary (revenue) and BJP leader Sukhpal Singh Nannu and his aides launched an attack against Ghubaya as well as state BJP president Kamal Sharma. They charged both with ignoring grassroot-level party workers for their alleged vested interests.
“Even though later Nannu gave a call to all to vote for Ghubaya, so that Narendra Modi can be installed as prime minister, but barbs from Nannu and others brought to the fore factionalism in the alliance,” political observers said.
It may be recalled that grudge among party rank and file against Ghubaya was the main reason behind the delay in naming him as party candidate. Moreover, Ghubaya’s differences with the family of former SAD MP from Ferozepur Zora Singh Mann is an open secret.
Talking to HT, Verdev Singh Mann, son of Zora Singh Mann, and Guru Har Sahai halqa in-charge, said they would abide by the order of the party high command and would ensure that he got maximum lead from Guru Har Sahai segment.
