On Wednesday, she was shifted to the PGI, where she died around midnight. Her son Jiwan Kumar confirmed that his mother had died of swine flu, however the district health authorities chose to present a different story.

Epidemiologist Dr Sailesh said the patient had tested negative, while senior medical officer Dr Anil Mahindra said that since the woman was never admitted to any of the health centres of the district, they could not confirm or deny reports. However, both admitted that woman's close kin had been administered medicine following reports that she was being treated in Ludhiana for swine flu.
