The local police claimed to have solved Amandeep Singh murder case, on Thursday. The 25-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified car-borne armed men outside civil hospital Patti, 24 km from the district headquarters on Monday.
Citing the matter as a revenge killing, the police said the victim, Amandeep and his aides, had kidnapped and killed one Gurtej Singh of Chandigarh in April 2017. To avenge his brother’s death, Gursewak Singh planed Amandeep’s murder, said the police.
During a press conference here, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Darshan Singh Mann said, “Two police teams under the supervision of superintendent of police (SP) Tilak Raj and deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Tarn Taran Ashwini Kumar were investigating the matter.”
“We reached the accused tracing the registration number of Ford Ikon car used in the crime. The accused have been identified as Pritpal Singh of Chandigarh, Raman Kumar aka Gora of Bhikhiwind and Amandeep Singh of Bhikhiwind,” said SSP Mann.
However, two accused Ravinderpal Singh aka Raju of Patiala and Gursewak Singh aka Banti of Chandigarh are absconding, he said.
All the accused have been booked under Sections 302 (punishment for murder), 120 B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Patti police station, said the SSP.
The arrested accused confessed that the deceased Amandeep and his aides Paramjit Singh, Rohit Sood, Nitish Kumar had killed Gurtej Singh after abducting him and also disposed off his body in Suhana canal in Patiala on April 22, the police said.
‘The victim was a fugitive since then,’he said.
SSP Mann said, “Two weeks back, during Baba Budha Sahib Ji fair in Chabhal, Amandeep and his friend Raman Kumar of Bhikhiwind were involved in an argument and he slapped Raman.” “Nursing a grudge, Raman contacted Gurtej’s brother Gursewak Singh and told him about his brother’s murder,” SSP said.
“Gursewak Singh and his aides had been watching Amandeep and on Monday they tried to kidnap him but failing to do so, they shot at him on the spot,” he said.
“The two absconding accused will be arrested soon,” he said.
