The latter three were arrested on Friday night on charges of committing robbery at different places in the past few days.

The three minors were later sent to juvenile home at Ludhiana.

Police said that all five were involved in unsuccessful robbery attempts at two Automated Teller Machines (ATM). They were arrested on the basis of recorded footage from CCTV cameras.

Police said that the accused first struck at National Bank ATM on Bhadson road and tried to break open the cash box, but failed. They later went to Axis Bank ATM, also on Bhadson road, and made unsuccessful attempts to break open the cash box.

ASI Gurnam Singh said that the accused had confessed to some other robberies committed in Bhadson road area in the past, including robbery at an eatery and a jewellery shop.

The ASI said that all three minor boys belonged to middle class families. "The accused are not addicts. They committed robberies only to become rich," he claimed.
