Three dead, six injured in bus-auto collision in Rishikesh

Three persons were killed and six others injured seriously when a bus hit an auto-rickshaw near Kale Ki Dhal in the holy town of Rishikesh in this district early today. The auto had been hired by a group of pilgrims from Punjab and Uttar Pradesh to move from Rishikesh to Haridwar. One of the dead hailed from Mansa.

Three people were killed and six others injured seriously when a bus hit an auto-rickshaw near Kale Ki Dhal in the holy town of Rishikesh in this district in the wee hours on Saturday.

According to police, the accident occurred when the speeding state roadways bus plying on the Rishikesh-Haridwar route hit the auto hired by a group of pilgrims from Punjab and Uttar Pradesh to move from Rishikesh to Haridwar.

The bus hit the auto coming from opposite side at about 4am on Saturday and dragged the vehicle to some distance, the sources added.

Auto driver Ratnesh Singh, 42, from Rishikesh, Santosh, 65, from Lakhimpur Khiri, Uttar Pradesh and Amarjit Singh, 45, of Mansa, Punjab died on the spot in the accident, police sources said.

Upon getting the information, the police and civil officials rushed to the spot and victims were taken to the trauma centre at the local government hospital.

The injured, including Major Singh, Pal Singh and Mahendra Singh, all from Mansa, and Santosh's wife Savitri, among others, were later referred to Jollygrant, Rishikesh in serious condition.

Bus driver Yashpal was arrested and investigation was on, police sources further added.
