Truck overturns, crushes cyclist to death

An unidentified cyclist was killed when a truck carrying sand overturned on him in Badshahpur village on the Jalandhar-Nakodar road on Saturday morning.

An unidentified cyclist was killed when a truck carrying sand overturned on him in Badshahpur village on the Jalandhar-Nakodar road on Saturday morning.

Amandeep Kaur, a resident of Kang Sabu village who was sitting in the truck, sustained injuries in the mishap. The driver managed to flee from the spot.

Police said the driver failed to maintain the truck’s balance as soon as he took a turn towards the road from a service lane. The cyclist was crushed to death.

The police called two JCB machines to extricate the body from beneath the truck. Traffic came to halt for nearly an hour. The victim’s body was shifted to the civil hospital and has been kept in the mortuary for next 72 hours for identification.

A case has been registered at the Lambra police station.
