The Daba police have arrested two of the four accused who had allegedly abducted, sedated and gangraped a 17-year-old girl in Alamgir village.
The accused have been identified as Sonu and Raja, both 18 years old and drivers at local factories. Their accomplices, Soni, 35, and Nindi, 24, who got married a week ago, are at large.
Those arrested were on Monday produced before the court that remanded them in two-day police custody. Police claimed that the duo had confessed to have abducted and raped the girl.
They said the accused used to stalk the girl, and her parents had rebuked them for it. The accused had also indulged in a scuffle with her family and had since nursed grudges against them.
Inspector Jatinder Singh, station house officer (SHO), Daba police station, said the girl, a Class-10 student at a government school, was on the way to school on Saturday when the accused pulled her into their vehicle. They then forcibly made her sniff a sedative, following which she fell unconscious. She was taken to an isolated place in Alamgir village, where they gangraped her, and later dumped her outside a college on Malerkotla Road.
When the victim regained consciousness, she returned to her house in Basant Nagar, Daba, and narrated the incident to her mother, who approached the police, he added.
Police have launched a manhunt to arrest the remaining accused.
