Two Amritsar youths killed, 2 hurt in car-bus collision

Two youths were killed while two others were injured when a Ford Figo car collided with a PUNBUS near Paragpur on Jalandhar- Ludhiana highway on Wednesday.

Two youths were killed while two others were injured when a Ford Figo car collided with a PUNBUS near Paragpur on Jalandhar- Ludhiana highway on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as Gurnoor Singh and Rajat Sharma of Gobindpura locality in Amritsar.

Two other car occupants Sumit Suri and Manjot Singh, also from Amritsar, sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at Johal Hospital.

Rajat was studying in Class 11 at DAV Public School. Both injured Manjot and Sumit are students of Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School, GT Road Amritsar.

As per eyewitnesses, the car (PB02-BM-0019) was being driven by Rajat and the four were going to Amritsar from LPU (Lovely Professional University), when suddenly the driver lost control over the vehicle near Paragpur and the car jumped the divider and rolled on to the other side of the highway, colliding with PUNBUS (PB06-V-7969) that was going towards Ludhiana.

Gurnoor and Rajat died on the spot while others were shifted to Johal hospital.

Manjot has sustained multiple injuries on spine, legs, head and was undergoing a surgery at the time of filing this report.

Injured Sumit said that they had come to LPU for participating in a function and does not remember anything else as he was sitting in the car’s backseat.

Rajat’s father Naveen got unconscious when he reached the hospital after getting information of the death of his son. He was taken inside immediately by hospital staff and other family members. Others family members at the hospital were also inconsolable.

While the families refused to record their statement, no case has been registered in this mishap and bodies were handed over to them. The traffic remained suspended for half an hour due to the mishap.
