Two youths, woman killed in Mohali road mishaps

Two youths were killed when their scooter was hit by a Toyata Innova SUV on Airport Road near Bakarpur village in SAS Nagar. In another accident, a 28-year-old woman was killed in Phase-6 after the auto-rickshaw she was travelling in overturned.

The deceased youths were identified as Pawan Kumar, 22, and Shubham Tailor, 23. Investigating officer Bhagat Ram said Pawan was riding the bike.

As Pawan tried to overtake a truck and an approaching Toyata Innova SUV bearing a Delhi registration number collided head-on with the scooter. Pawan died on the spot, while Shubham died at Fortis Hospital in SAS Nagar. The driver of the SUV fled from the scene.

“A case has been registered against the unidentified driver and we are hopeful of arresting him soon,” Bhagat Ram said.

The bodies have been kept at the civil hospital for the postmortem, which will be conducted on Monday.

Both the deceased were bachelor and natives of Uttar Pradesh. Pawan was staying with his uncle in Sector 56, Chandigarh, while Shubham was staying at Mohali village with his grandfather.

In the second mishap, Ranju Devi, 28, of Balongi village died when the autorickshaw she was travelling in overturned near Dara Studio in Phase 6 here on Sunday morning. According to the police, the autorickshaw was at a high speed when the driver, Sandeep, lost control over it. Some passersby shifted Ranju and Sandeep to Civil Hospital in Phase 6, where Ranju Devi was declared brought dead. Sandeep is undergoing treatment.
