Vipassana skips date with Panchkula police, cites poor health; 3-day remand for Honeypreet

The interrogation of Honeypreet, “adopted” daughter of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, found that she was part of a meeting in which planning was made to spread arson in Panchkula. Police suspect Vipassana might be in the know of the conspiracy.

Dera Sacha Sauda chairperson Vipassana Insan did not turn up before Panchkula police on Tuesday, citing medical grounds. Local police had summoned her for questioning in connection with its ongoing probe into the August 25 Panchkula.

35 people were killed and 250 were injured in Panchkula after the dera chief was convicted by a special CBI court on August 25.

Panchkula DCP Manbir Singh told HT that the police were verifying whether Vipassana had faked ill health to avoid police probe or did she really have medical problem before taking next course of action. “Her questioning is vital to our ongoing probe. We will see what can be done in due course,” he said

Why is Vipassana wanted?

The ongoing interrogation of Honeypreet, “adopted” daughter of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, found that she was part of a meeting that took place on August 17 in which planning was made to spread arson in Panchkula.

Police suspect Vipassana, being the administrative head of the dera, might be in the know of the conspiracy. She was to be questioned to dig out more details on how Panchkula violence was executed.

35 people were killed and 250 were injured in Panchkula after the dera chief was convicted by a special CBI court on August 25. Since then police have arrested 1,100 people.

Honeypreet’s police remand extended by three days till Oct 13

A court here today extended the police remand of jailed Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s close associate Honeypreet Insan till October 13.

She was arrested in connection with the violence that followed the sect head’s conviction in a rape case.

Police sought a nine-day remand of Honeypreet but the court after hearing arguments sent her to three days in police custody, Honeypreet’s counsel S K Garg Narwana told mediapersons after the hearing in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Rohit Vats.

Narwana said he had opposed police remand for Honeypreet.
