As per the reports the hailstorm hit several villages of Sunam, Sangrur and Bhawanigarh.

Chief agriculture officer Rajinder Sohi said that the rainfall has brought cheers for the wheat growers as the showers have intensified the cold conditions making the weather more suitable for the crop.

"There are no reports of harm by the rainfall yet. The rainfall at this stage is good for wheat. Rain will
help the growth of the plant and it will help to improve wheat production", he said.

However, the rainfall may increase demand of urea in a district where the farmers are already complaining about the poor supply of the much needed fertilizer.
