In an act of humanity, a 24-year-old woman has been pursuing a case against her husband, who allegedly abducted a 16-year-old girl of Rajpura from Ludhiana on December 24 last.
Priya alias Pushpa of Neelpura in Rajpura has been visiting the city every 15 days to assist the complainant, Satish Kumar, brother of the victim, in pursuing a case against her husband, Yogesh (31), a law graduate.
According to Priya, her husband had cheated her, but she wanted to help rescue the minor girl, and see her husband behind the bars.
On Friday, the police summoned her and Satish Kumar to appear before them for investigation.
Priya told the police that she married Yogesh in March 2012. Later, she came to know that her husband had been in a relationship with the minor girl before their marriage, and also caught him cheating on her. However, he apologised and promised to never see the girl again.
Meanwhile, the girl's parents sent her to Ludhiana, along with her brother, Satish of Rahon road.
According to Satish, the accused had abducted her sister from Rahon road on December 24 last, following which he filed a complaint at Basti Jodhewal police station.
Priya claimed since his disappearance, her husband had been in contact with his kin, and the police could trace him by questioning them.
Inspector Balwinder Singh, SHO, Basti Jodhewal police station, said the police had raided several places for the arrest of the accused, but to no avail. He said efforts were on to arrest Yogesh.
Meanwhile, Satish claimed that though Priya had been assisting him in pursuing the case, the attitude of the police was apathetic. He alleged that the police did not follow up on any lead given by them, and instead kept calling them every now and then to the police station.
