Woman set on fire in Manimajra, suffers 55% burns

A 25-year-old woman was set on fire in Manimajra by two unidentified motorcycle-borne persons late Tuesday night. The victim, Amrita, is currently hospitalised at Chandigarh’s PGIMER after she received 55 % burn injuries in the incident.

Amrita and her mother were returning from hospital when the attack took place. The motorcycle-borne persons threw kerosene on her and then set her on fire. She was walking behind her mother after her Activa got punctured while coming back from hospital.

Her mother raised an alarm and some passersby called the police. She was rushed to GMSH-16 from where she was referred to PGIMER.

Amrita had got married in September and police’s preliminary investigations indicates towards the role of her husband Gurvinder. Amrita along with her husband and mother was staying on rent in Manimajra. Her mother said she did not see the attackers.
