The body was found in a pool of blood by villagers in Surda forest where he had gone to graze livestock on Tuesday evening, the police said. A dupatta (scarf), allegedly the girl’s, was also found near the body.

At a public meeting called by the villagers to discuss the murder on Wednesday, the 15-year-old of Chatra district came forward and confessed that she murdered Tukun Ghansi by stabbing him multiple times”.

The police, who was present at the meeting, took her into custody as she was a minor.

“The girl said the man sexually harassed her every day for the past one month and was tired of Ghansi’s behavior,” said investigating officer Peter Kindo.

“The girl and the man were of the same village.”

Police said Ghansi’s family members have rubbished the allegations.

“They said Ghansi had caught the girl in a compromising position with her boyfriend and she murdered him before he could expose her,” said Kindo.

Police said that Ghansi’s body had been sent for autopsy.
