Puneite Abhay Mahajan will be seen in a completely new avatar in his next film. The untitled film is an action-thriller which is in an out-and-out commercial space. Speaking about it, the Ringan (2015) actor says, “The film is being directed by Jiten Sharma, who has assisted Ram Gopal Varma earlier. It is a commercial film, and even has a slow motion romantic song,” says Abhay with a smile.

This year, Abhay will also be seen in fellow Puneite Alok Rajwade’s directorial debut. He feels that every film has a different process. “Every film-maker has a different intention, and process while making a film. As an actor, I can’t decide on a process before going on the sets. I have to work in tandem with the director. Luckily for me, till now, directors have liked my way of working, and they have given me the liberty to explore,” he says.

Abhay adds that acting in Gachchi (2017) has helped bring him in the limelight and get the necessary recognition. “People really liked my work in the film and I also got awards for my character. Now, people believe that I can carry a whole film on my shoulders. They got to see my potential and moreover, I got to fulfil my potential. I have done serious and intense theatre for eight to 10 years but my films made people believe in my talent and give me work.”

As an actor, Abhay admits to having his own fantasies about the roles and films that he would like to be a part of. “I agree to take on a film if it is something that I would want to watch as an audience. There are roles I can’t even imagine myself in, but that is the challenge I enjoy. I try and make it as realistic as possible. I believe in connecting with my roles and characters around me, more than getting it right.”
