Directed by Atul Kale, Balkadu is all about Thackeray's ideology. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, who has produced the film, told PTI, "We want to spread the thoughts of Balasaheb among the young generation through the film. Balasaheb did not have grudges against any (other) state. He used to say he was a Maharashtrian in Maharashtra, a Bengali in Bengal, a Kannadiga in Karnataka and so on."
Raut also edits the Sena mouthpiece Saamana.
Interestingly, the Shiv Sena had also demanded a "Google Doodle" to mark Thackeray's birth anniversary, on January 23.
