Actor Vijay has finally spoken about the recent Mersal controversy. The star released an official statement where he thanked his fellow artistes, national and state politicians, fans and everyone who supported the film during the row over a GST scene in the film. In the official statement, he has said, “Mersal film had released on Diwali and has so far received a warm response from audience. It is currently running successfully in the theatres. However, this successful film faced a few problems too. In response to this - my colleagues from the industry, friends, the South Indian Actors’ association, Tamil Nadu Film Producers’ Council, national political leaders, regional political leaders, media, and the public - supported my film Mersal and the team.”

He added, “I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for making this film a raging success.” While the producers were ready to cut the controversial scenes, it looks like this was not necessary after the filmmakers met with the BJP party members. While the GST scene and the resulting controversy has taken a back seat, fans are still unhappy about their favourite star’s religion being used against him.

The film that released on October 18 has so far reportedly collected Rs 150 crore in its opening week. Also starring Nithya Menon, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Kajal Aggarwal, this film is about a doctor’s dream to provide quality healthcare facilities for the people in his country. Vijay plays three different roles in the film, that of a doctor, magician and a common man from rural Tamil Nadu.
