It will be a treat for superstar Rajinikanth’s fans as they’ll get to watch their matinee idol twice on the big screen as two of his films 2.0 and Kaala are gearing up for release. While the Rs 400 crore science-fiction action adventure 2.0 is gearing up for January 2018 release, it has been learnt that Kaala, in which Rajinikanth plays a slum lord turned gangster, will release in April, according to reliable sources. Interestingly, Rajinikanth is done with shooting both the films recently.
Kaala is rumoured to be made as a Tamil-Hindi bilingual and will also have lines in Marathi as the film was predominantly shot in Mumbai. The film’s story revolves around the lives of oppressed Tamils in Mumbai and their fight for equality, lead by Rajinikanth in the role of a slum lord. The makers spent over Rs 5 crore to build a replica of Dharavi slum to shoot key portion of the film, which is produced by Dhanush and has music by Santosh Narayanan. The film was originally planned to be released on the occasion of Rajinikanth’s birthday on December 12. However, for reasons unknown the project was pushed to next year and now has been confirmed to hit the screens in April.
The project marks the reunion of Rajinikanth and director Ranjith after 2016’s blockbuster Kabali, and Kaala is said to be made on a budget less than the former. The film also stars Nana Patekar, Huma Qureshi, Anjali Patil, Pankaj Tripathi and Samuthirakani in pivotal roles.
