I had a very special friend. I confided in him but he was a shy guy. We used to like each other a lot but we knew it would never culminate in marriage.

One day, I got to know through our common friends that he was getting engaged. I was hurt. Why hadn’t he told me? I congratulated him. He showed me her profile on Orkut. I was happy for him. He urged me to find a nice guy and settle down.
Two months passed. I called him a few times but he didn’t seem too keen on talking to me. Finally the day of his engagement drew close. I wanted to go. So I called him to find out the venue.

Special day
We had guests over at home that day. My mother tried to dissuade me from going for the engagement. But I didn’t want to miss this special day in my friend’s life. My mother was grumbling, “I don’t know why your friends force you to do things for them all the time.”

That was like a slap across my face. I remembered that he hadn’t even invited me. I made up my mind to go only if he called me. But he didn’t.

Days passed. A million questions raced through my mind. I know there’s a reason for his behaviour. He called me after two weeks and gave me a silly reason for his behaviour. I knew he was lying. I’m still waiting to hear the truth.
