NEW DELHI: KP Aravind of Team Sherco TVS slipped two places and was 28th after the fourth stage of the OiLibya Rally Morocco, the final round of the FIM Cross Country Rally World Championship, on Thursday.

Aravind, who has had a good run in his debut in Morocco, is placed 19th in the provisional ranking among 450cc riders. CS Santosh of Hero MotoSports Team, whose bike stalled in the third stage on Wednesday, restarted the rally in the fourth stage but is out of contention and was classified 66th at the end of the day, though he managed to climb five places. The bike/quad segment of the October 3-7 rally is led by British rider Sam Sunderland riding a KTM.
JITU RAI WINS SILVER
Jitu Rai claimed silver in the men’s 50m free pistol event at the ISSF World Cup final at Bologna, Italy, on Thursday. He shot 188.8 in the final. The winner was China’s Pang Wei, whose score was 190.6. Home favourite Giordana Giuseppe was third with 170.3. Jitu was ranked second in the qualification round with a score of 568, and the top eight entered the final.
DYNAMOS WIN
CHENNAI: Brazilian winger Marcelo Pereira struck twice as Delhi Dynamos beat defending champions Chennaiyin FC 3-1 in their first game of the Indian Super League at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Thursday.
Chennaiyin FC are without a win from their first two matches.
GERMANY FACE CZECH
BERLIN: Germany host the Czech Republic on Saturday in the first of back-to-back World Cup 2018 qualifiers targeting two home wins despite missing main striker Mario Gomez.
The Germans face the Czechs at Hamburg’s sold-out Volksparkstadion Stadium, then face Northern Ireland four days later in Hanover looking to score, even with Wolfsburg’s Gomez out with a glutes injury.
