VLADIVOSTOK (RUSSIA): Indian shuttlers signed off an impressive campaign at the Russian Open Grand Prix, notching up the women’s singles as well as the mixed doubles titles on Sunday.

Fourth seed Ruthvika Shivani Gadde emerged triumphant in the women’s singles event, beating local favourite Evgeniya Kosetskaya 21-10, 21-13 in a 26-minute contest.

In the mixed doubles final, N Sikki Reddy and Pranaav Chopra edged past the Russian duo of Vladimir Ivanov and Valeria Sorokina 21-17, 21-19 to claim the top honours.

However, it was heartbreak for Siril Verma who lost 21-16, 19-21, 10-21 to Malaysia’s Zulfadli Zulkiffli in the men’s singles final after battling for over an hour.

BHULLAR FINISHES FIFTH IN JAKARTA

JAKARTA: Indian golfers Gaganjeet Bhullar and S Chikkarangappa registered creditable Top-10 finishes at the BNI Indonesian Masters here today.

While Bhullar ended the week the way he began it with a bogey-free round of 67 and finished at 12-under for fifth place, Chikka was one place behind him at tied sixth.

Anirban Lahiri was six-under for the week and Tied-31st. Jyoti Randhawa and Arjun Atwal were Tied-46th, while Rahil Gangjee, Chiragh Kumar and Himmat Rai were Tied-43rd.

Jeev Milkha Singh, in the top-10 after first day, ended Tied-56th and Shiv Kapur, clearly not fully recovered yet was Tied-63rd and Abhinav Lohan was Tied 66th.

ANINDITH, ANANTH JOINT LEADERS IN EURO JK16

COIMBATORE: Anindith Reddy of Hyderabad jumped to the top of the ladder in the Euro JK 16 event at the 19th JK Tyre-FMSCI National Racing Championship, sharing the lead with Ananth Shanmugam in the tussle for the title with 76 points.

LGB Formula 4 racer Vishnu Prasad and JK Touring Cars star Asish Ramaswamy too made it a special weekend for themselves by winning all their races over the two days and consolidating their championship positions.

HOCKEY JUNIORS LOSE BRONZE MEDAL PLAY-OFF

PERTH: India’s men’s junior team went down 1-5 to the New South Wales Waratahs in the Australian Hockey League (AHL) Bronze medal match.

Commenting on the game coach Harender Singh said: “We use the AHL as a preparatory tournament for the Junior World Cup later this year and its is quite heartening to see that the boys have held their own against the teams in the league.

“At crucial times we have made some small mistakes, but we’d rather make them now and learn and correct them, than in Lucknow in December,” he added.
