NEW DELHI: Two-time Olympic medallist wrestler Sushil Kumar has been nominated for the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honour, by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).
The Federation has also recommended female wrestler Alka Tomar and Dronacharya awardee Yashvir Singh, Sushil’s coach, for the honour.
“All three names were recommended earlier last month for the honour,” WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar said.
Earlier, Sushil’s name was recommended for the honour two years ago but was rejected.

MUMBAI: Aiming to break the impasse over the governing of sport in the country, Boxing Federation of India has called for elections here on September 25 to take things forward.
“A notice has been sent out for the elections to be held on September 25 at the Mumbai Cricket Association’s Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana in Kandivli,” a top source connected with the new body said.
CHHETRI RETAINED BY MUMBAI CITY FC FOR ISL 3
MUMBAI: India’s longtime striker Sunil Chhetri, who masterminded 4-1 rout of higher ranked Puerto Rico last week in an international football friendly here, will again play for Mumbai City FC in the Indian Super League (ISL).
The ISL franchise has retained Chhetri for the third season of the 2014-launched league which means the 32-year-old will return to the city outfit for the second time, resuming the role of star striker for the squad, said the club on Tuesday.
