The Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty then extended India's lead, drawing them close to a historic gold. The Indian pair beat China's Liang Weikeng/Wang Chang in straight games (21-15, 21-18).
Kidambi Srikanth, however, endured a tough 22-24, 9-21 defeat against Li Shi Feng. Following that the pair of Sai Pratheek/Dhruv Kapila endured a 6-21, 15-21 defeat in the second doubles match, forcing the match into decider.

India headed into the finals after engaging in a thrilling contest against South Korea, whom they defeated 3-2 in the semifinals. All the three wins came in the singles matches.
