A brace by striker Felix Chimaokwu and a goal by skipper Odafe Onyeka Okolie did the trick for the side as they moved to third place in the table with 35 points.

Salgaocar pulled one back in the stoppage time through Roucs Lamare but failed to move out of the danger zone as they remain second from the bottom with 24 points.

Salgaocar, who need a win badly to remain away from relegation, dictated terms in both halves and created chances. But they lacked inside the box as their final passes failed to beat the rival keeper.

Churchill earned a penalty in the 28th minute when defender Luciano Sabrosa accidentally handled the ball while intercepting a high lob from Kalu, with Odafe Okolie inside the box. Felix converted the penalty.

Churchill again earned a penalty in the 52nd minute when Sabrosa pulled Odafe Okolie from behind inside the box and referee Pratap Singh made no mistake in pointing to the spot. Odafe converted the spot kick.

Felix then put the match beyond Salgaocar’s reach three minutes later when his shot from the top of the box took a deflection off Ikene Ikenwa leg and caught goalkeeper Amit Nandi on the wrong foot to find the net.

Salgaocar pulled one back in added time when Rocus Lamare headed in a cross from substitute Rino Anto.
