Miffed at Kenya's late pull out of the Nehru Cup, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) is planning to complain to Fifa and the Court of Arbitration for Sport(Cas). The Nehru Cup begins in New Delhi on August 22.
“This last-minute withdrawal from Kenya is very unprofessional. We are yet to receive an official letter from them but have been notified informally. We plan to lodge a complaint to Fifa and Cas,” Das told HT over the phone from New Delhi on Thursday. Kenya have opted for a friendly against Jamaica on August 25 in the USA instead of the tournament being held as part of the AIFF's diamond jubilee celebrations.
The preparatory camp for the Nehru Cup had to be shifted from Greater Noida to Bangalore upsetting the AIFF's plans to cut cost on travel.
The AIFF is still unsure when star striker Sunil Chhetri will be released by Sporting Lisbon 'B'. Chhetri was recently quoted saying, "We have a very important tournament (Nehru Cup) and the club has already been told about it, so I will act according to whatever decision Sporting makes. I am sure that everybody will go through Fifa's rules and regulations." Chhetri could join by August 14.
