Paris Olympics 2024 Live Updates: Neeraj Chopra has arrived in Paris to defend his gold medal

India's golden boy Neeraj Chopra touched down in Paris to defend his Olympic title in men's javelin at the Summer Games 2024 on Tuesday. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Singh scored a sublime brace to help the men's hockey team upstage Ireland 2-0 in the Pool B encounter of the Paris Olympics. After India continued its solid run in men's hockey to enter the quarter-finals, badminton superstars Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty recorded another comfortable win to top Group C.

Later in the evening, boxer Amit Panghal lost to Patrick Chinyemba of Zambia in the men's 51 kg round of 16 bout. The-28-year-old suffered a shock 1-4 split verdict to Zambia's Chinyemba. Debutant Jaismine Lamboria went down by a 0-5 unanimous verdict to Tokyo silver medallist Nesthy Petecio in the 57kg round of 32 bout. Holding back tears, Indian badminton stalwart Ashwini Ponnappa confirmed that she has played her last Olympic match. Ponnappa and her partner Tanisha Crasto suffered their third straight loss in the women's doubles competition.

Manu Bhaker scripts history

On Day 4 in Paris, shooter Manu Bhaker clinched her second Olympic bronze in a one-sided affair to double India's Summer Games 2024 tally. Partnering with Sarabjot Singh in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, the pair cruised past South Korea in the bronze medal match. On Monday, Bhaker clinched her first and also India's first Paris 2024 medal, coming third in the individual women's 10m air pistol final.

Meanwhile, rower Balraj Panwar finished fifth in his men's singles sculls quarter-final and got knocked out. The day's early hours were dominated by shooting events. Shreyasi Singh and Rajeshwari Kumari competed in the women's trap qualification. Prithviraj Tondaiman shot a perfect 25 in the last two rounds. However, he finished 21st in the qualification round of the men’s trap shooting event in Paris.

Earlier, Ankita Bhakat also made an early exit by losing to Wioleta Myszor of Poland.
