The 41-year-old Puerto Rican will sing the tournament's official theme song, which he will co-write with the winner of a competition organised in conjunction with Sony, Xinhua reported.

"I am extremely happy and humbled that I was asked to launch this special contest where fans have an opportunity to co-write the final version of the song with me," Martin said.

"I think it is a brilliant idea and I'm grateful to be part of this important initiative."

It will be the second time Martin has sung the official World Cup theme song.

He won worldwide international acclaim with the hit "La Copa De La Vida" at the 1998 World Cup in France.
