Sania crashes out of French Open
Sania lost her first round match to Giselo Dulko of Argentina on Tuesday.
India's Sania Mirza saw her French Open debut suffer a quick and disappointing end on Tuesday when she was sent crashing to a 6-3, 6-3 first round defeat by Argentinian 30th seed Gisela Dulko.
The 18-year-old Mirza, who made history earlier this year by becoming the first Indian woman to make the third round of a Grand Slam event in the Australian Open and the first to capture a WTA tour event, was handed a tough 78-minute lesson by Dulko.
But Mirza, whose world ranking is at a new high of 70, believes she can take some positives out of her experience here before she heads for the grasscourt season in England where she will kick off her Wimbledon preparations at Birmingham.
"She's tough to play because she's a really good clay court player," said Mirza who came into the tournament still feeling the effects of an ankle injury which kept her off the tour for six weeks.
"It was a good experience for me but it's hard to play after six weeks away. I grew up on clay in India, but there it's brown clay, very sandy and quicker than here. It's easier to slide."
Mirza is working with Bob Brett, the former coach of ex-Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic, and she is determined that a little of that magic will rub off on her on the grass courts.
"He's a great coach and knows all the techniquues. We have been working together in Italy, working on my volleys. But I have to be careful because I don't want to injure the ankle again."
