6 years on, ‘shaheedi gallery’ to open for devotees on March 9

Sikh clergy led by Akal Takht jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh will inaugurate the gallery in the presence of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami and other religious personalities, said a spokesman of Damdami Taksal.

The gallery has been set up by Sikh seminary Damdami Taksal in the basement of the Operation Bluestar memorial or ‘Shaheedi Yaadgar’ established in 2013 in the form of small gurdwara amid a row over putting up the picture of slain militant leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who was killed during the operation carried out by the army to flush out the militants from the Golden Temple in June 1984. SGPC general house passes resolution against police action at Sultanpur Lodhi gurdwara

In the special meeting of the general house of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) held on Thursday, a resolution was passed in the case of police entering Gurdwara Akal Bunga Sahib, Sultanpur Lodhi, with shoes, firing, throwing tear gas shells and alleged violation of maryada (conduct).

Akal Takht bans destination Sikh weddings at beaches, resorts

After his first meeting as Akal Takht jathedar, Giani Raghbir Singh says complaints were received from the sangat (Sikh community) that some people were violating maryada and conducting Anand Karaj (Sikh wedding) by installing Guru Granth Sahib at beaches or resorts. According to the Panj Singh Sahiban, conducting Anand Karaj with parkash (installation) of Guru Granth Sahib at these places is banned.

Scuffle among office-bearers: Akal Takht bars HSGMC from holding meetings

Referring to a video from the meeting, held at Panjokhra Sahib gurdwara, where Sikh preacher Baljit Singh Daduwal and other members were purportedly seen abusing and manhandling each other, the jathedar said, “What happened in the meeting is condemnable. This has hurt the sentiments of the Sikh Sangat across the world. Akal Takht office is getting phone calls and complaints over this incident.”

High court to examine legal sanctity of Akal Takht ‘hukamnamas’

The high court bench of justice Sandeep Moudgil passed the order after the counsel of a complainant of an FIR registered for hurting religious sentiments had submitted before court that as per the ‘hukamnama’ issued, it is only Guru Granth Sahib which is to be worshipped as sole Guru and it was on that account that the FIR was registered by the Amritsar police.
