The supersonic cruise missile, according to the report, was test-fired from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands territory as part of the trials being conducted by the Indian Navy.

The range of the new land-attack version of the missile has been extended to 400 km from the original 290 km but its speed has been maintained at 2.8 Mach or almost three times the speed of sound, they said.

In the last two months, the Defence Research and Development Organisation, which has developed the BrahMos missile system, has been successful in testing both new and existing missile systems including the Shaurya missile system, which can hit targets at over 800 km.

The missile was test-fired from a mobile launcher stationed at Launch pad 3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Odisha at 10.40 am, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) officials said.

In 6 months, 75% components of BrahMos will have been produced domestically
