Cabinet Committee On Security (CCS) has approved a 19,000 crore contract for acquisition for more than 200 BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles for the Indian Navy. The deal also includes extended-range missiles which can hit targets 500 km away. Hindustan Times has learnt the contract would be signed in coming weeks. BrahMos, a joint venture between India and Russia, has over time emerged as a frontline weapon for the Indian armed forces. India is also set to deliver the BrahMos missiles to the Philippines next month.
