New Zealand did the unthinkable and took a 1-0 lead in their three-match Test series in India by beating the hosts by eight wickets in Bengaluru. It is the first time since 1989 that New Zealand have managed to win a Test in India at the latter's home and the first time since 2005 that India have lost a match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The game was a thriller filled with extraordinary individual performances like player of the match Rachin Ravindra's century in the first innings and match-winning knock in the second. Here, we take a look at some of them.
Rachin Ravindra followed up his first innings century by putting on 75 runs for the third wicket with Will Young off 92 balls and leading New Zealand to a famous victory over India in the first Test at the Chinnaswamy. This is New Zealand's first Test victory in the country since 1988.
OUT! KNOCKED HIM OVER! THROUGH HIS DEFENCE! Tim Southee draws first blood and it is the Indian skipper who departs pretty early. Southee stays over the stumps and bowls it on a fractionally fuller length with a wobbled seam position, keeping the line of attack on the stumps. Rohit Sharma charges down to the pitch of the ball to negate the swing and loft it over the bowler's head. However, the ball pitches and tails back in a long way and sneaks through the gap between the bat and the pad to clatter into the stumps. Rohit Sharma departs on 2 (16). India re 9/1.
Devon Conway's knock of 91 runs off 105 balls took NZ to a strong 134-run lead. Rachin Ravindra (22*) and Daryl Mitchell (14*) will resume batting for the visitors on Day 3.
